Mis. Occ.’s 86th Provincial Anniversary Celebration and 6th Pas’ungko S’g MisOcc Festival Officially Opens

November 2015 marks the 86th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Misamis Occidental and its 6th Pas’ungko S’g MisOcc Festival. In commemoration, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental launched its month-long celebration with an opening program last November 3, 2015 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, Oroquieta City. The said event kick-started with a Eucharistic celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Pablito Arcaba. After which, the Subanen baylans and chieftains performed their tribe’s thanksgiving ritual.

Some of the highlights of the program were the lighting of the Pas’ungko Fire spearheaded by the Provincial Governor Hon. Herminia M. Ramiro, Provincial Vice-Governor Hon. Aurora Virginia M. Almonte, and the Chairperson of the Provincial Tourism Council, Hon. Gerard Hilarion M Ramiro, and the offering of abundance by all City Tourism Officers and Tourism Council Chairs.

Following the Lady Governor’s inspirational message, the Regional Director of the Department of Tourism, Region 10, and the program’s keynote speaker, Hon. Catalino “Butch” E. Chan III, proudly reiterated that Pas’ungko S’g MisOcc is now an accredited festival by the regional and national Department of Tourism. This means that it will not just be known locally, but also internationally, paving the way for more tourists to visit the province. This was followed by the lighting of the 86th Provincial Anniversary and 6th Pas’ungko S’g MisOcc Festival marker, positioned right in front of the Capitol Building.

In her closing remarks, the Vice-Governor made mention of the exclusion of the Province of Misamis Occidental from the list of the top 16 poorest provinces in Mindanao. Such accomplishment would not be possible without the effort and support of the provincial leaders headed by Governor Ramiro and the people of Misamis Occidental, in general. “We may not be a perfect government, but we are dedicated to deliver and achieve a better quality of life for our people”, she said.

The program was concluded with a grand fireworks display and a ballroom party for all dancing buddies.
