PGMO Opens Local Tourism Icon Display Contest and 6th Pas’ungko Trade Fair
The opening of the Gate of Local Tourism Icons and the Door of Pas’ungko Trade Fair, headed by Regional Director Linda O. Boniao of the Department of Trade and Industry, Region X, and OIC-Regional Director Nilo P. Castañares of the Department of Interior and Local Governance, who represented Sec. Mel Senen Sarmiento, officially marked the start of another set of events which was organized by the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental in celebration of the Province’s 86th Founding Anniversary and 6th Pas’ungko S’g MisOcc Festival. The opening program for the Local Tourism Icon Display Contest and 6th Pas’ungko Trade Fair was held at the Provincial Capitol Grounds on November 9, 2015.
This event flaunted the different famous tourist spots in every city and municipality in Misamis Occidental as well as their respective well-known products. It aimed to showcase the abundance and prosperity of the province, especially in the tourism and agriculture sectors, thus, the theme: “Pasalamat sa Abundang Abot ug Kita sa Katilingbang Misamisnon”.
For 86 years, the Province of Misamis Occidental is not just celebrating history, agriculture, beauty, and culture, but also health and, equally important, is tourism. This is what Hon. Aurora Virginia “Jie-Jie” Almonte, the Provincial Vice-Governor, said in her welcome message. Prior to the opening ceremony, an early morning Walk-for-a-Cause was participated by various agencies and schools in Misamis Occidental, followed by Pas’ungko Zumba.
Further, what was remarkable was the turn-over of the Walk-for-a-Cause proceeds to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) and also the turn-over of Vita Meal to the 14 LGUs.
