PGMO Paints the Day Orange

On November 25, 2015, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental launched the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). The whole province was painted with orange, a bright and optimistic color which represents hope and violence-free future.

The event started with a province-wide caravan from the Municipalities of Bonifacio and Sapang Dalaga to the Provincial Capitol Grounds. It was immediately followed by the launching ceremony. In her message, Provincial Vice-Governor, Hon. Aurora Virginia M. Almonte, gave focus on the VAWC Law. She concluded her speech by saying, “Abuse can change a woman’s character from being warm to becoming passive; from being loving to becoming an angry person; from being confident to becoming fearful. If a woman cannot anymore take care of herself because of constant abuse, it will be very difficult for her to take care of others, especially her children. Please do not let your wife or any woman in your family experience this.”

Furthermore, another highlight of the launching ceremony was the release of orange balloons, led by the provincial leaders. The event ended with the awarding of certificates to LGUs with commendable programs and projects on Gender and Development (GAD).
